Task Description
ASI company approached us with a problem of exporting/actualizing contacts database and calendar events, placed in their internal system on Microsoft SQL, to users public and personal folders on Microsoft Exchange server.
Client’s request was that any user could, for example, see all events input in the internal system in his calendar in MS Outlook without the need of installing any utilities on his own computer. Individual events should above all synchronize in MS Outlook personal folder because of synchronization with a PDA device.
Solution of MS SQL and MS Exchange synchronization
Our application was installed on customer‘s server. The application synchronizes specified data in set intervals from Microsoft SQL server to personal folders of all users on MS Exchange so that users see all events in their calendar in Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Web Access or on their PDA devices and all this without installing anything on the user computers.
The basis of the solution is the ExchangeSync service, which conveys data flow between database server (Microsoft SQL) and mail server (Microsoft Exchange). This service is fully configurable with the help of external XML file where all data relations are defined. Thanks to the use of Microsoft .NET technology this service, as a data source, supports not only Microsoft SQL, but also Oracle, MySQL or any other database of the ODBC standard.
