Project requirements:
We have been asked to develop an educational application which would enable work with the maps and which would be used to improvement of geographical subject education. This application enables work with the maps of specific areas and also enables modifications according to existing business, industry and other branches of economy. It is possible to create the thematic maps.
Application must fulfill some conditions:

whole application will be developed as a web application;

application will be placed on client Microsoft IIS server;

application will be developed in ASP.NET 2.0;

MySQL will be used as a database;
-
MapInfo MapXtreme Version 2005 API will be used for connection to maps.
Also this functionality must be fulfilled:

three-level access privileges structure;

more then one user can be connected to the application;
-
data saving and proccessing must be separated;

using of given tree structure.

This project is an example of outsourcing. Mapalytics (GB) has been the very first initiator of demand. This company is specialized in data analysis with using maps. Their main customers come from education, finance a government sector. Mapalytics has chosen Modcomp Limited (GB) for Edumap Web Portal development. Modcomp Limited is Microsoft certified partner. Modcomp Limited has outsourced the development to our company MEMOS Software.
Project solution:
Complete application core development has been part of solutions which we have done. In application, three different roles of users exist - administrator, teacher a student. Each role is allowed to do some operations and access some parts of application. The application homepage is same for all roles and consists of general information and help files. The role of user is set depending on login.
Administrator presets system for following usage by teachers and students. Creating of LEA (Local Education Authorities) is one of the most important administrator's operations. Each school is assigned to one LEA. Administrator creates an education plan for each school and defines maps which will be used. In the end, teachers' accounts are created.
Teacher sets system for following usage by students. Creating of workgroups isone of the most important teacher's operations. Particular maps are assigned to these workgroups to support the education. In the end, students' accounts are created and students are assigned to the workgroups.
Student is an end user of this solution. Student is granted by administrator and teacher to do some operations with maps, for example searching, sorting, editing, saving or printing.
