Database synchronization with MS Outlook

Customer

Technologies

INPUT is an American company specialized in the government orders and contacts intermediation.

INPUT required an integration of the government contact data from CMS and MDS database systems into MS Outlook via web services. This add-in makes the government contacts database accessible for INPUT clients from familiar MS Outlook platform instead of still used web interface.

Application integration into MS Outlook

MS Outlook synchronization requirements

The lists of contacts, important meetings and terms of government orders are included in an internal INPUT database. Each government order is registered in this database with all requirements and INPUT has required synchronization with MS Outlook. In MS Outlook, the contacts are divided into several categories and the meetings are displayed in “Calendar” (with text descriptions and links to INPUT information system included).

INPUT synchronization application

Technological solution

MEMOS Software has been developing an application which is fully integrated into MS Outlook via COM add-in technology. After “Synchronize with INPUT” button click in MS Outlook toolbar, the synchronization application starts. The communication between this application and the web service is based on XML / SOAP technology. Mentioned web service is a tier for INPUT database and INPUT data structures access. The communication is secured by SSL certificate and the transmission is protected by HTTPS protocol. Data are pumped from MS SQL 2000 and MS SQL Server 2005 databases. A client application for synchronization is created by VB.NET.
